WELCOME TO YOUR HOME AWAY FROM HOME

AN UPDATE ON SUMMER CAMP:

The health, safety, and well-being of every camper, staff, volunteer, and guest is our highest priority. We have done much consultation, research, and deliberation--but at this point, the Kirkwood Camp Board of Directors and Full-Time staff have come to the conclusion that having 2020 on-site summer camp programs at Kirkwood has become effectively impossible. Without widespread testing or a vaccine for COVID-19, it is simply not safe to offer on-site programs to children and youth this summer.   So, with much sadness, we are announcing that our entire 2020 Summer Camp Schedule has been cancelled.

For 60 years, campers have been coming to Kirkwood to make new friends, to try new things, to build their faith in God, and learn more about themselves and our beautiful outdoor environment. One summer off, though disappointing to our Kirkwood family, does not undermine our ongoing mission to build bridges connecting kids to each other, to the creation we so desperately need to understand and care for, and to learn to love a God that has always known and loved them.

We will be doing our best this summer to honor our mission in other ways--both with exploring alternatives that allow us to support the local community, and finding opportunities to build bridges with our campers and their families in other ways. We will be sharing more on that when we have the details all figured out.

If you have made a payment towards summer camp, we hope you will consider making a choice to donate that money towards the future mission and operations of Kirkwood. We understand that right now, that’s not possible for every family--if you need a refund, we will fully refund your money, no questions asked. We will be reaching out to you in the coming weeks to make sure we have the correct information to move forward.

If you haven’t made a payment yet, but would like to make a donation to help support our ministry in a very uncertain time--we’d appreciate that if you can. All donations will help support our mission throughout this year and into the next. You can make a donation any time at kirkwoodcamp.org/donate or by sending us a check to the address at the top of this page.

The ministry at Kirkwood is stronger and more important than a single summer. We never thought we would be in a place where summer camp just couldn’t...go. But, we will hold you and your families in prayer, keep in touch the best we can with your campers over social media, and look forward to our next summer of camp in 2021.

We know for many of you, there are much bigger things than camp that you are worrying about. In your lives and your communities, we truly hope that you are safe, healthy, and happy, and wish you many blessings on the road ahead.

OUR STORY

Since 1960, Summer Camp at Kirkwood has been a special experience. Campers from our first year, now in their golden years, still can't help from gushing about how much fun it was. From adventures to the sense of community, Kirkwood has always been just what kids need for a week over the summer.

Now in our 59th year, we are focused on making the memories for our 2019 campers that they will gush about 59 years from now. Just one week at Kirkwood can have that kind of an impact--so what are you waiting for?

MORE THAN JUST FUN

With more activities to do than you can fit in a week, there's a lot for kids to do here. We blend adventure, excitement, challenge, faith, creativity all together in a fun, outdoorsy package. Our small-group model helps build community, but you can be sure we get the full camp together for evening games or campfires, it's a big experience.

WHO ARE OUR STAFF?

Our staff want to be here and it shows. This may surprise--being a camp counselor is not the most high paying summer job. We hire staff that want to work with your kids and have an impact on their lives--no matter what the story is. Plus--we train them for two weeks at the start of every summer, so we can be sure they are fully prepared. You would be hard-pressed to find better counselors for your kids.

PROGRAM BENEFITS

We are perfect for campers who are away from home for the first time--but some of our campers this summer will be in their 10th year. With 1 and 2 week camp options and accessible staff we take our commitment to our families seriously and invite you to be a part of the experience as much as we can. Strong evidence shows that our program makes kids feel more confident in themselves, want to go to church more, and want to have more faith conversations at home.

CONVENIENT FOR FAMILIES

The summer has gotten so busy for families. Our programs are one and two weeks, with options to end on Friday or Saturday. Registration is quick, and we go over every detail, so if you forget something, we are in touch with you before you even know it. Check-in and check-out is painless. And, if you are in the Philadelphia area, we offer a transportation option to save you a trip.

OUR FACILTIIES

Air-conditioning, nice indoor bathrooms, great food...we've changed a lot over 59 years. Every indoor space that campers use is new or newly renovated in the last several years. Campers can go hard outside knowing that they can sleep in a cool, climate controlled indoor space. For our more adventurous camps, they take advantage of our platform villages, giant canvas tents that provide that rustic feeling.
